Tobacco Taxation as a Way to Reduce Tobacco Use in Nebraska

Research from state after state and experience here in Nebraska points the way to how Nebraska can move toward a healthier future, one where fewer Nebraskans suffer the death and disability that result from tobacco use.

Research from state after state shows that increases in the price of cigarettes and other tobacco products reduce tobacco use. This presentation was made by Dr. Frank Chaloupka to the state Tobacco Free Nebraska conference.

The presentation below provides statistics on reducing tobacco use in Nebraska, and the impact raising the price of tobacco products.

Dr. Chaloupka is a Distinguished Professor for the Center for Health Services Research at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s School of Public Health.

Dr. Chaloupka directs Impacteen, which investigates tobacco use, obesity, substance abuse and other common threats to teen health. Impacteen is a collaboration funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Impacteen is based at the UIC Institute for Health Research and Policy, and collaborators are at RAND, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and other institutions around the country.
