Reducing Tobacco Use in Nebraska: What Works

What works to reduce tobacco use in Nebraska?

Dr. Frank Chaloupka, Professor of Economics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, says to reduce tobacco use in Nebraska, it's important to Monitor, Protect, Offer and Warn, Enforce, Raise, or MPOWER.

This presentation provides a snapshot of where Nebraska is in those efforts to promote smoke-free environments, help keep kids tobacco-free, and provide help for Nebraskans who want to quit smoking or quit tobacco use. This presentation was made by Dr. Frank Chaloupka to the state Tobacco Free Nebraska conference.

Dr. Chaloupka is a Distinguished Professor for the Center for Health Services Research at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s School of Public Health.

Dr. Chaloupka directs Impacteen, which investigates tobacco use, obesity, substance abuse and other common threats to teen health. Impacteen is a collaboration funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Impacteen is based at the UIC Institute for Health Research and Policy, and collaborators are at RAND, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and other institutions around the country.
