Keeping all workplaces, restaurants, and bars in Nebraska 100 percent smokefree is the best way to continue protecting Nebraskans from the dangers of secondhand smoke, according to the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.

Loopholes in laws that allow for smoking in ventilated areas, casinos, bingo parlors or hookah bars -- loopholes that Nebraska doesn't have -- and loopholes for cigar bars -- which Nebraska does have -- weaken the law and do not adequately protect the public, according to ACS CAN.

Currently 23 states and the District of Columbia have a comprehensive smoke-free law in place that covers all types of workplaces, bars and restaurants. Keeping all workplaces, restaurants and bars in a state 100 percent smoke-free is the best way to protect all residents from the dangers of secondhand smoke.
